Newport Oregon is central to the central Oregon coast and as such has a little of everything. There's a lovely bridge linking the south end to the northern half, a bay front tourist area, a brewery (Rouge Ale), the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Oregon Marine Gardens north of town, and larger shops, banks, etc., along highway 101, Seal Rock to the south of town, and more beautiful scenic ocean front through and on the the north of town. There are also two lighthouses in town. One short and cute at the entrance to Yaquina Bay and the other on the north end on top of Yaquina Head.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Yaquina Head Lighthouse built in 1873 and 93 feet tall. It's Oregon's tallest lighthouse located at 162 feet above the ocean.

Yaquina Bay Lighthouse (not shown here) is 42 feet tall and built in 1871 and originally used a whale oil lamp as it's light source. It was replaced only two years later by the taller Yaquina Head Lighthouse. However this shorter one at the bay entrance is still used today as part of the coast guard station and as a tourist site.

Nye Beach

Nye beach is located toward the middle of Newport's ocean front and has a wonderful visitors parking area and beach access. As you can see, it's also a favorite Sea Gull place too.

Nye Beach 2

This rock formation was just north of the Nye beach access. It's still there, except the hole that we used to walk through collapsed a couple of years ago, but the main body of rock is still in place and is colorful brittle sandstone.

Central Coast - View

This view is looking south between Lincoln and Newport. The drive along the central part of the coast has quaint towns, and high vistas, perfect for whale watching and just good family fun.
