Redwoods

Just south of the Oregon boarder is the Jedediah State Park. The focus of this park are the giant Redwood trees. There are two kinds of redwood trees in the park, the largest one in the park can be found on the Stoat Grove Trail. The two kinds of trees are listed below.

  1. The Coastal Redwood, also known as the Sequoia Sempervirens can reach over 360 feet tall and the oldest tree is over 2,200 years old (it started to grow in 206 bc).
  2. And the Sierra Redwood, also known as the Sequoaidendron Gigantum, they can reach over 310 feet tall and the oldest is over 3,200 years old.

The largest tree in the park is 340 feet tall and it's named the 'Stoat Grove" tree.

Another unusual tree in the park is the 'Big Tree', it's a wide hollow tree that a family lived in during the 1930's. The inside is like one large room, with wavy uneven walls.
